Using Power Chords

In a previous lesson we encountered a common chord shape commonly known as the power chord or the fifth chord. This page features three song examples that use power chords. Notice how the same two-note chord shape/pattern simply slides up and down the neck, aligning with different frets to create different chords.

Practice these song exercises to help get more comfortable with sliding this chord pattern up and down cleanly without losing its shape when in motion.

Brain Stew is the easiest of the three songs, as there is a period of rest between each pair of chords.

Listen to the songs (easily found on YouTube for example) to hear the timing/rhythm of how the chords are played. The next two songs also have some rests between the chords but they are shorter.
